Upsell
An offer for a more expensive version of what the customer just bought — bigger size, longer subscription, premium tier. Lifts AOV without extra CAC.
An upsell is an offer for a larger or more premium version of what the customer is already buying: "You're buying the 30-day supply — would you like the 90-day for only $10 more?" or "You're buying the standard version — upgrade to the premium bundle for 20% off."
Upsells work at multiple points in the funnel:
- On the PDP: Tiered variants (small / large / premium).
- At checkout: An order bump checkbox.
- Post-purchase: A one-click upsell on the thank-you page that reuses stored payment info.
Post-purchase one-click upsells (using apps like ReConvert or AfterSell) typically capture 10-25% of purchasers and can add 8-20% to AOV with zero additional CAC.
